Impacting Rain-Fed Villages in Wanlaweyn and Afgoye Districts
Communities in the rain-fed villages of Buulo Jifi (Wanlaweyn District), Warmahan (Afgoye District), and surrounding areas in Lower Shabelle under the Southwest State of Somalia are experiencing an alarming deterioration due to the ongoing drought.
Farmers completed land preparations before the Deyr season, expecting normal rainfall. However, the situation has drastically shifted as the Deyr rains failed entirely, leaving the land dry and without moisture.
As a result, many fields have no crops, and the few that sprouted are withering due to a prolonged lack of rain. Families depending solely on rain-fed agriculture now face growing food insecurity and a serious threat to their livelihoods.
This urgent situation highlights the immediate need for humanitarian assistance, livelihood support, and climate-resilience interventions to protect the most vulnerable communities.
