As we mark the global 16 Days of Activism Against GBV (25 November – 10 December), it is important to highlight the realities faced by women and girls in places where vulnerability is intensified by crisis.
In Lower Shabelle, Southwest State of Somalia, women are facing not only the threat of gender-based violence, but also the harsh impacts of the ongoing severe drought. With rainfed areas drying up, livelihoods collapsing, and basic resources becoming harder to access, women and girls face heightened risks including early marriage pressures and unsafe travel for water and firewood.
At HAMDI, we reaffirm our commitment to women’s protection and empowerment.
During these 16 Days, including weekends, HAMDI will increase community mobilization, awareness sessions, and engagement activities to ensure that the message of prevention, safety, and dignity reaches every corner of our communities.
This campaign reminds us that prevention requires investment in services, in rights, and in building resilience for women and girls during climate shocks.
Let us stand united to end all forms of GBV and advocate for a safer and more dignified future for every woman and girl in Somalia.
