Field Visit Report: Strengthening Primary Healthcare for Displaced Communities in Afgoye
During our recent field visit to the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) center in Afgoye, Lower Shabelle Region, Southwest State of Somalia, we observed that the facility is operating effectively and providing essential services to conflict-affected communities. The MCH is currently serving displaced families from Sabiid, Anole, Mordile, and Awdheegle, who were forced to leave their homes due to prolonged conflict between Al-Shabaab and the Government of Somalia.
These vulnerable households are now accessing vital primary healthcare and Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) services through the MCH. Overall, service delivery is progressing well, and the center continues to offer critical support to mothers, infants, and children.
However, despite the positive performance, a key service gap remains nutrition support. Strengthening nutrition services is essential to ensure comprehensive care for displaced and vulnerable populations.
