HAMDI Executive Director Mohamud Mayow Leads Engagement at Human Rights Workshop
We are proud to share that HAMDI’s Executive Director, Mohamud Mayow, attended the Human Rights Training Workshop and Consultation for the Somali Bantu Community in Mogadishu from 20–22 January 2026.
These 3-days workshop brought together community representatives, human rights experts, and leaders to discuss how marginalized communities can engage with national, regional, and international human rights systems during the post-UNTMIS period.
Sessions focused on:
1. Understanding human rights and recognizing violations
2. Documenting abuses safely, including those affecting women, girls, and children
3. Engaging with human rights institutions, mechanisms, and processes
4. Planning community protection priorities and advocacy actions
5. Learning about UN human rights bodies and complaint procedures
As a minority and marginalized-led organization, HAMDI often faces challenges like limited funding and low visibility. Participating in workshops like this ensures our voice and the voices of the communities we serve are heard.
We thank the organizers for creating a space that empowers local leadership, strengthens human rights awareness, and supports inclusive community protection.
