International AIDS Day – December 1st.

We stand firmly with people living with HIV/AIDS. At HAMDI, we believe in protecting their rights, defending their dignity, and ensuring they receive equal access to health, support, and opportunities.

People living with HIV/AIDS continue to face discrimination, stigma, and social exclusion, which often harms them more than the disease itself. It is our collective responsibility to stop discrimination and replace stigma with compassion, respect, and accurate information.

We also encourage communities to learn the correct ways HIV is and is NOT transmitted, so people living with HIV are not unfairly judged or isolated:

✅ HIV CAN be transmitted through:

1. Unprotected sexual contact
2. Sharing contaminated needles
3. From mother to child during childbirth or breastfeeding (if not on treatment)

❌ HIV is NOT transmitted through:

1. Sharing food or water
2. Touching, hugging, or shaking hands
3. Mosquito bites
4. Using the same toilet or utensils
5. Being near someone who has HIV

With proper treatment, a person living with HIV can live a long, healthy life and cannot transmit the virus if their viral load becomes undetectable.

At HAMDI, we call on donors, partners, and humanitarian actors to expand inclusive services, increase awareness, and ensure that no one living with HIV/AIDS is left behind especially women, children, and persons with disabilities who face additional risks and vulnerability.
