International Day of Persons with Disabilities – December 3Upholding Rights, Ensuring Inclusion, and Expanding Opportunities

Today, we stand with persons with disabilities and reaffirm their rights, dignity, and full inclusion in all aspects of life. Every project we design must keep and increase the percentage of persons with disabilities within our target groups because true inclusion means intentional action.

We strongly call on donors and partners to increase their engagement and support for disability-focused projects. Many persons with disabilities in Somalia cannot work due to their conditions, and the prolonged drought has further deepened their vulnerability, leaving them at greater risk of neglect and exclusion.

It is also important to note that women with disabilities are much more likely than other women to experience violence. This makes protection, accessibility, and targeted support even more urgent.

Let us work together to:

🔹 Prioritize disability inclusion in all humanitarian and development programs

🔹 Increase funding for disability-specific interventions

🔹 Ensure accessible services and meaningful participation

🔹 Address the heightened risks faced by women and girls with disabilities

🔹 Promote rights, dignity, and equal opportunities for all

On this International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we reaffirm our commitment: No one should be left behind.
